"I have been going to Gordon for about a year and a half now and the reason I started going was because of a softball injury. I had a collision with an opposing first baseman that threw my back out.  I was in severe pain and couldn’t play for over a month. A woman that my mom works with told me to try Connections.  I was a little skeptical at first because who would have thought that a massage therapist could help such a bad back injury, but I decided to go because I had been to many doctors and had many tests done such as a Bone Scan, an MRI, and X-rays. None of those tests or doctors helped. So I thought “What is the worst that could happen?” I went in and Gordon made me feel right at home. He didn’t do anything that hurt and he listened to my concerns and discussed my treatment in depth with me. He explained why he was working in the areas he chose and what the benefits of massaging those areas were. I walked out of their building that day pain free for the first time in over two months. It was great. Since then I have had no pain in my back and Gordon has also helped me with shoulder problems that I have had with my throwing arm. I am very glad that I went there the first time because if I hadn’t I would still be in pain today. "

BOWEN THERAPY

The Bowen therapeutic technique was developed in Geelong, Victoria, Australia, by Tom Bowen Ð completely independent of any other modality.  It is not based on any Oriental, Occidental or Aboriginal theory or system.  It is based on clear cut anatomy and an astute knowledge of how the body functions and its components interact.

Tom Bowen operated his clinic from the early fifties to just before his death in 1982.  Mr. Bowen considered his abilities “a gift from God.”

A series of gentle, cross-fiber massages used to manipulate the connective tissue and realign the body to promote a balanced energy flowÑusually with the client fully clothed.  These moves encourage and assist the body to heal itself.  This work incorporates subtle movements, joint tapping in extremities, and a series of transverse manipulations.  These moves are applied to the superficial fascia and connective tissue.

The treatment is generally followed by two-to-five minute rests, thus providing adequate time for neuromuscular reeducation and/or response.  Once the systems of the body are accessed allowing muscle and nerve tissue to relax, the body becomes energized, rebalancing or reprogramming according to its own genetic blueprint of health.  Usually a tingling sensation or heat follows the treatment.  Range and fluidity of motion are restored or enhanced rapidly.

Most injuries or conditions are alleviated in a minimal number of treatments.

Because Bowen works in harmony with the body, this therapy is incredibly effective for any muscular, skeletal or nerve imbalance, injury or chronic conditions: headaches, TMJ, stiffness, “frozen” shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, back pain, posture, pelvic imbalance, sciatica, coccyx (tailbone) problems, knee conditions, to name a few.

Internal organs also benefit from this work.  Bowen addresses problems related to the digestive system, menstrual cycles, asthma, kidneys, bedwetting, etc.

This therapy is very effective for detoxifying the body.  It opens the lymphatic system and promotes drainage, thus reducing breast pain and lumps, often relieves prostate pain and reduces swelling in legs and ankles.

Bowen has become immensely valuable in the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and related conditions.

Bowen is a very beneficial therapy for pregnant women.

Every body responds positively to Bowen Therapy.  Problems of unknown origin respond to Bowen Therapy.
